Mayor Mike McGinn's office says that the deputy mayor of operations, Phillip Fujii, is resigning due to health reasons:

“Phil Fujii has been a tremendous public servant, and I want to thank him for his important role in the transition and the early days of my administration,” McGinn said. “Phil knew when I asked him to take this job that it would be a challenge given some health issues that he was facing. Ultimately, his concern proved correct and he’s making a difficult decision that is right for him.”

McGinn said he will appoint an internal transition team this week to work with City department directors and to begin working on a plan for selecting a replacement. Fujii had shoulder surgery on Friday and said he would be out this week on medical leave. His resignation is effective Friday, April 23.

Get well, Mr. Fujii.
