This is probably good news for Amazon in the long run, because it means they're not going to try to make a jack-of-all-trades tablet device, which would almost definitely not succeed in a toe-to-toe race with an iPad. Releasing their Kindle software for the iPad and Android is the smartest thing they could've done. But still, e-ink is going to start looking pretty silly in the next year as screens adapt for e-reading; I'm sure that in five years we'll be amazed that we ever read on a strictly black-and-white device.
