  • Two of the three proposed UW Medicine buildings.
A meeting tonight of a construction review board concerns another massive addition to the South Lake Union biomedical juggernaut. Phase three of the UW Medicine complex (phases 1 and 2 are completed and located across the street) would place three new multi-story buildings on the city block bounded by 8th, Dexter, Mercer and Republican. The current buildings on the block include the Barking Lounge (a dog daycare business) and some nondescript parking lots and commercial spaces. Preliminary sketches of what the completed site might look like available in this .pdf. (Queen Anne Community Center, 1901 1st Ave West, 6:30 p.m.)

Also tonight, Legal Challenges to Arizona’s Immigration Measure features Thomas Saenz, president of the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund, (MALDEF) discussing Arizona's new anti-illegal-immigration measure and how MALDEF and the ACLU intend to fight it. (Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Avenue, 7:00 pm to 9:00 p.m, free.)

Meanwhile in the same building, Eli Kintisch and David Battisti, the authors of Hack the Planet speak on Geoengineering Possibilities and Dangers, which is science-jargon for projects like “cloud-whitening” that might avert global warming, or might KILL US ALL! (Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Avenue, 7:30 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., $5.)
