Open Books hosts Jennifer Boyden tonight. The Mouths of Grazing Things is an amazing title for a book of poetry. Robert Pinsky likes the contents of the book, too.
But Colson Whitehead reads at Elliott Bay Book Company tonight. I'm going to say it: Whitehead is one of the best writers of his generation. I wrote a Constant Reader a while back about how Richard Ford spat on Whitehead, and how his spit was the passing of a torch from one generation of American literature to another.
Whitehead is in town for the paperback of his latest novel, Sag Harbor, which I called "the perfect summer book" a while ago. This is the reading of the night.
The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.
