If poetry is your thing, Elizabeth Austen reads at Richard Hugo House tonight. Austen is an exciting local poet. Her new book is titled The Girl Who Goes Alone.
If you prefer literary fiction, Shane Jones is at Elliott Bay Book Company tonight. Light Boxes is a thin novel about a town in which it is always February. It has a beautiful cover, and it's receiving generally positive reviews.
If you like weird short stories, Maureen McHugh reads at University Book Store. Mothers & Other Monsters is a collection of short science fiction stories from lovely small sci-fi publisher Small Beer Press. (You can download a Creative Commons version of the book for free here.)
And if your tastes lean more toward Stephen King and the popular fiction side of the bookshelf, you should go to the University Village Barnes & Noble, where Justin Cronin will read from his nearly 800-page post-apocalyptic vampire thriller The Passage. This is currently the hot fun summer doorstop book, with rave reviews from some and I-couldn't-finish-it reviews from others. They're giving out bracelets for the event already at the Barnes & Noble, so if you have your heart set on this reading, you should pop in on your lunch break to ensure your place at this reading.
