As I wrote yesterday, Secret Garden Books up in Ballard is having a Mockingjay release party all day, with raffles and door prizes and probably food.

Elliott Bay Book Company hosts Aldona Jonaitis, the author of Art of the Northwest Coast. Jonaitis is a totem pole expert. You should expect to learn something new about totem poles tonight.

And Terry Brooks reads at University Book Store. The very popular fantasy author reads from Bearers of the Black Staff. Brooks writes about elves and stuff. (As a side note: This weekend, I watched a documentary called The Dungeon Masters. It was all about people who get swept up in fantasy role-playing games. It was sweet and sad and lovely in its own way, and there was a woman who dressed up as a drow elf when she wanted to feel powerful. She kind of broke my heart. It was a good movie.)

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here. And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for personalized book recommendations, feel free to tell me the books you like and ask me what to read next over at Questionland.
