  • Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre/Ruins of Detroit

I'm from the rust belt, so I'm familiar with post-industrial corrosion
but Detroit is almost magical in its disintegration. These photos, from the exhibition “The Ruins of Detroit” by Yves Marchand and Romain Meffre, are lovely and sad and chilling all at the same time.

Say the artists:

Nowadays, [Detroit's] splendid decaying monuments are, no less than the Pyramids of Egypt, the Coliseum of Rome, or the Acropolis in Athens, remnants of the passing of a great civilization.

(In the unlikely event you are in Stockholm in the coming weeks, you can see the exhibit in person at The Gun Gallery through September 19.)
