Seattle Mayor Mike McGinn said Thursday that he'll look at raising downtown parking meter rates to help lessen the city's budget woes and open more on-street spaces for people heading into downtown.

"We're looking across the board at all fees and on-street parking is one of the fees we will be looking at," McGinn said. [...] McGinn said on-street parking might be under-priced and could be managed more effectively to free space for short-term parking. McGinn declined to say how much he thinks parking rates should be. He said a proposal would be included with his budget.

Cue the letter from downtown businesses (replete with logos and a dozen signatories) saying that nobody will shop in Seattle ever again.
