From BC to Toronto:

Delta Police have seized what they're calling a huge amount of opium poppy pods they expect would have been processed into the drug doda.

The street value of the drug is estimated at $760,000.

Investigators seized 132 boxes containing the 36,000 poppy pods last Friday from a truck on the 8600 block of Scott Road.

No arrests have been made but Delta Police are continuing the investigation.

It's the second significant doda seizure in the same part of Scott Road in the past month.

A Brampton man convicted of selling doda will spend 74 days of weekends in jail under a sentence handed down this week.

As well, Ashwani Bhangal, 44, will be under house arrest for 20 months after he serves his weekend punishment for also selling opium to undercover officers.

It’s the first time anybody in Greater Toronto, perhaps even Canada, has been convicted of selling doda, which police, medical experts and community workers say has become a very serious problem in Brampton's Punjabi community, especially among truck drivers, labourers and taxi drivers.
