Prop 19—money's up, polls are up:

An influx of donations — more than $650,000 so far this month — is allowing the campaign to target young people, who overwhelmingly tell pollsters that they want to see pot legalized, and African Americans and Latinos, who are being told that the war on drugs incarcerates them at higher rates than whites. [...]

Proposition 19 would allow people 21 and older to grow up to 25 square feet of marijuana and possess up to an ounce, and would authorize cities and counties to approve commercial cultivation, retail sales and taxation.

The measure has remained steadily ahead in most polls, with the support of about half of the electorate.

Don't buy the recent hype from feds who say they'll ignore the law and keep busting folks—they're trying to make would-be supporters pessimistic. Remember, the gist of the law would "allow people 21 and older to grow up to 25 square feet of marijuana and possess up to an ounce." Say it with me, federal law enforcement doesn't bust or prosecute cases that small (possession or tiny grow rooms). States do that, and state law in California would prevent a court from convicting someone for possession or having a small grow room after Prop 19 passes. True, the part about taxing and selling the feds could be stopped and it could go to court, but most of the law—the part that LETS PEOPLE GROW POT AT HOME—is essentially untouchable.

This could win. California may be the first state to legalize pot—in 15 days.
