1971 Big Mario: Lookin good.
  • 1971 Big Mario: Lookin' good.

Homegrown Sustainable Sandwich Shop is holding a contest this Halloween for the customer with the best Earl of Sandwich or Count of Monte Cristo costume, as noted earlier this week by Mr. Frizzelle. Three other establishments also invite your future chagrin with their own food-related Halloween costume contests. As a regular Slog reader, you’ve presumably already let go of any remnant of your pride. How about taking it one step further by dressing up in a ridiculous costume for a free cupcake?

• BIG MARIO’S NEW YORK STYLE PIZZA: On both Saturday and Sunday night, Big Mario’s is throwing their 1st Annual Big Mario’s Halloween Party & Lookalike Contest. Dress up as either Modern Big Mario or 1971 Big Mario (many of you swarthy types already have this look down cold, so there’s really no excuse) for a chance to win a seriously awesome prize: First place winner each night gets a $250 tab at Mario’s, second place gets a $100 tab. Do you know how many slices that is??? Exactly 76.9 slices of pepperoni pizza, people!

• TROPHY CUPCAKES: For its 2nd Annual Cupcake Costume Contest on Halloween, Trophy offers one free cupcake for any customer dressed as, you guessed it, a cupcake. You’ll also be entered for a chance to win the first prize gift of two dozen cupcakes. The cost of a cupcake costume versus the cost of a cupcake: You do the math.

• CHIPOTLE MEXICAN GRILL: Visit any Chipotle location on Halloween from 6 p.m. to close dressed as a processed food and get a burrito for $2. Good luck with that. All proceeds benefit Jamie Oliver’s Food Revolution.
