Public Policy Polling says Republican Dino Rossi is leading Democratic incumbent Patty Murray 50-48, in part because of a "severe" enthusiasm gap here in Washington State:

Washington has one of the more severe enthusiasm gaps in the country. Barack Obama won the state by 17 points in 2008 but those planning to vote this year supported him by only a 7 point margin.

That's a very different result, and sense of the enthusiasm gap, than was found in another recent poll.

The Washington Poll, released Friday, found Murray leading 49-45 and discovered a somewhat inverted enthusiasm gap in this state. As the pollster who conducted it, Matt Barreto, told KPLU:

Unlike in many states, in Washington Democrats seem more enthusiastic about voting than tea party loyalists.

However: That Washington Poll surveyed only 500 registered voters from October 18 - 28, and had a margin of error of +/- 4.3%. The PPP poll surveyed a lot more people: "PPP surveyed 2,055 likely Washington voters from October 29th to 31st. The margin of error for the survey is +/- 2.2%."
