There's sound of broken glass at the Nabob—I am guessing it's because Prop 1 supporters have had one too many bourbon sours, not because they are upset that Prop 1 lost. Campaign manager Maurice Claussen says he's still optimistic.

"I mean you are asking people for a sales tax in the middle of a recession," he says smiling. "We gave it the best we could. We might get closer to winning, but I'd be surprised if we win. We are still hoping, hope springs eternal."
