Is a game still a game if it provokes an existential crisis in its players? Developed for the Independent Games Festival Student Showcase at the 2011 Game Developers Conference in San Francisco by students at DePaul University, the scary-clever Octodad lets players take on the role of an octopus masquerading as an All-American family man. It speaks to all of us who have a hard time pretending to be human, and the fiendishly difficult control scheme perfectly (and deliberately) captures the frustration of making one's way through a world we don't understand with tools better suited to a completely different environment.

Sadly, it's Windows-only for now, but the price is right, so go for it if you've got the tech. Check out the trailer and make sure to catch the live-action bit at the end:
