There are a ton of events today, including a staged reading of Lyle the Crocodile at Secret Garden Books, Steamcon II in SeaTac, and more events I'm going to tell you about right now.

First up, it's time for the Friends of the Library Holiday Sale at Magnuson Park. You will find a bunch of ridiculously cheap books for sale at this one-day iteration of the popular book sale that benefits Seattle Public Library.

In a couple of minutes, it's time for the Adventures in Reading Book Publishing Party at 826 Seattle. Adventures in Reading is 826 Seattle's first-ever hardback book. It contains lots of tall tales written by local 826 kids.

Noon brings Rick Anderson to Seattle Mystery Bookshop. The local author reads from his new book Seattle Vice: Strippers, Prostitution, Dirty Money and Crooked Cops in the Emerald City.

Third Place Books hosts Buddy Valastro this afternoon. Cake Boss: Stories and Recipes from Mia Famiglia is a book by Valastro, who is some sort of "reality" television star. (Third Place has another cookbook event tonight, too, so you could make a day of it up in Lake Forest Park.)

Greenwood Library is hosting a cool-looking event titled "Deep in the West Antarctic Ice Sheet." This is a slide show of a recent trip to "the WAIS Divide Ice Core Project field camp, where scientists are collecting a three kilometer column of ice for analysis."

And tonight we have a couple of neat events right near each other. At Barça, we have "Unhinged," which is the latest episode in The Bar Room Writers Offensive. Readers include Cristien Storm and Mortimur K. The event is hosted, as always, by the indomitable Doug Nufer, who is a local treasure. And up the street at Pilot Books, we have a reading by Don Mee Choi, Jen Currin, Crystal Curry and Deborah Woodard. Don Mee Choi is an incredible poet. Crystal Curry is also an incredible poet. The other two could be incredible poets; I am unfamiliar with their work. That means this reading is guaranteed to be at least one-half incredible. I like them odds.

The full readings calendar, including the next week or so, is here.

And if you're planning on staying in and you're looking for something to read, you can get personalized book recommendations from myself and a team of five expert booksellers from Third Place Books and three Seattle librarians over at Questionland. Tell us what books you've loved, what subject you'd like to learn about, or what kind of person you're looking to give a book to and we'll have a few great recommendations for you in no time flat.
