Where Are the Democrats on That Pledge to Let the Bush Tax Cuts Expire?

The sense within both parties was that Democrats were essentially negotiating the terms of their major retreat on an issue that they once considered a slam-dunk on both substantive and political levels.
Now everyone believes that the Bush tax cuts will be extended—perhaps for just enough time that they become an issue all over again right around November of 2012.
