The Washington State Transportation Commission is holding a public meeting tonight downtown at Union Station (401 S. Jackson) about the state's proposal new tolls for the 520 floating bridge. Here's an hour-by-hour table of proposed rates. At rush hours on weekdays, it'll cost up to $5 to cross Lake Washington, but the fees graduate downward to zero dollars between 11:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m. Drivers who buy a "Good To Go!™" pass would also save some duckets.

The money will help pay for a brand spanking new bridge (which may or may not be able to accommodate light rail).

Considering we have miles of expensive new roads to rebuild—the 520 Bridge alone will cost $4.5 billion and it's only about half financed—we should begin tolling I-5, I-90, and the West Seattle Bridge at the same time.
