Teabaggers are trying to force out Joe Straus, the Speaker of the Texas House. Because he's Jewish. John Cook, a member of the Texas State Republican Executive Committee who is leading the attack on Straus, gave an interview wherein he said the following:

"...I got into politics to put Christian conservatives into office. They’re the people that do the best jobs over all.”

Cook insisted he is not prejudiced against Jews:

“They’re some of my best friends,” he said of Jews, naming two friends of his. “I’m not bigoted at all; I’m not racist...My favorite person that’s ever been on this earth is a Jew,” he said. “How can they possibly think that if Jesus Christ is a Jew, and he’s my favorite person that’s ever been on this earth?”

And while we're on the subject of Texas, you really should read the story that the Houston Chronicle did over the weekend about Texas Governor Rick Perry, who is trying to become a champion for state's rights as a platform for a 2012 presidential run. I don't know about you, but Southern governors talking about state's rights always make me feel warm and fuzzy.
