Voyager 1, the most distant spacecraft from Earth, has reached a new milestone in its quest to leave the Solar System.

Now 17.4bn km (10.8bn miles) from home, the veteran probe has detected a distinct change in the flow of particles that surround it.

These particles, which emanate from the Sun, are no longer travelling outwards but are moving sideways.

Voyager 1 has been traveling for 33 years and its radio messages take 16 hours to reach us. How is it even possible that we have not lost contact with this old piece of technology? It's incredible that we are communicating with something on the edge of the sun's atmosphere—"the final term of the series":
In the oriental conception of emanation the absolute is the light which illumines itself. Only it not only illumines itself but also emanates. Its emanations are distancings from its undimmed clarity; the successive productions are less perfect than the preceding ones from which they arise. The process of emanation is taken only as a happening, the becoming only as a progressive loss. Thus being increasingly obscures itself and night, the negative, is the final term of the series, which does not return to the primal light.
