And, yes: Patty voted for DOMA in 1996. But that was a long time ago—we've come a long way in 14 years—and Patty has been stellar on gay issues pretty much ever since. She's voting the right way on DADT—indeed, Patty is scheduled to give a speech in the Senate today calling on her colleagues to repeal DADT. I'm confident that if marriage equality comes up for a vote in the U.S. Senate sometime in the next six years—a DOMA repeal (in my dreams), some effort to ban gay marriage in the wake of a pro-marriage-equality ruling from the Supreme Court (ditto)—Patty will vote for equality, fairness, and justice. This time.
