Yesterday I wrote about the first trickle of candidate filings for this year's Seattle City Council races. One of the candidates for the five seats on the ballot is Dorsol Plants, who ran against Sally Bagshaw in the 2009 primary, but hasn't declared who he will challenge this year. Said Fnarf in comments:

I hate to say it, because it's ridiculous and stupid and unfair, but it's true. Dorsol Plants isn't going to get elected to anything unless he changes his weird-sounding name. I suggest "Tom Jones" or perhaps "Norman Rice".

Dorsol hopped into comments this afternoon with a little etymology:

Dorsol is a Gaelic word, and it would be especially disappointing to same to change it as I am Dorsol Plants III....there is something new to make fun of me for ;).

"Plants" was the name given my Irish immigrate ancestors because there was one to many "Floyd"s in the country already. We've always treated our immigrants so kindly and respectfully.
