Science Daily...

(About 250 million years about 95 per cent of life was wiped out in the sea and 70 per cent on land. Researchers at the University of Calgary believe they have discovered evidence to support massive volcanic eruptions burnt significant volumes of coal, producing ash clouds that had broad impact on global oceans.
That incredible extinction was caused by something that came out of the ground. This extinction was caused by something that fell out of the sky:
It's official: The extinction of the dinosaurs and a bunch of other species 65.5 million years ago was caused by a massive asteroid that crashed into the Gulf of Mexico, an international team of researchers said last week.

The 7 1/2 -mile-wide asteroid was traveling at about 10 times the speed of a rifle bullet when it hit. The impact blew dirt and rock around the world, set massive wildfires, knocked down forests worldwide, triggered massive tsunamis and earthquakes of magnitude 11 or larger, and even caused parts of the continent to slip into the ocean.

Humans should see that asteroid as a godsend. Indeed, a whole religion should be built around it. We should not turn to, send our prayers to, make pilgrimages to Mecca but to the Gulf of Mexico.
Mammals exploded in size after dinosaurs went extinct and continued to grow for about 25 million years, according to a new study that appears in the journal Science.

In the first 140 million years of their existence, most mammals stayed small, most the size of today’s rodents. Then, after the end of the Cretaceous epoch, when dinosaurs disappeared, mammals began to grow, and grow and grow, for about 25 million years.

Amen.
