1. Local author Cherie Priest reads at University Book Store tonight. This is the first Seattle reading in recent memory that isn't for her Clockwork Century series of books (Boneshaker, Dreadnought, Clementine). She's debuting her new novel Bloodshot, which is the first book in a new urban fantasy series about a vampire-for-hire. Characters include an evil scientist and a "kick-ass drag queen." I haven't read this one yet, but if you like her other work and you're on the fence about getting into this new series, a reading is a good place to go and kick the tires. And Priest's Q&As are phenomenal—they're an entertainment unto themselves.

2. If your book nerdiness tends more toward the literary, you'll want to go to the Off Hours Reading at Sole Repair tonight. Readers include Brian McGuigan, poet Katie Ogle, and Michael Shilling. Your host is the delightful Rebecca Hoogs. This is a fine assemblage of local talent, and well worth your time and attention. The Off Hours Readings has quickly become one of the best reading series in town.

3. There are plenty more events tonight, including a reading by the author of a bento box cookbook and a wine-soaked party at Secret Garden Books, in the exhaustive readings calendar.
