That represents a gentle $25 savings compared to the price of today's cheapest Kindle, but those 2500 pennies don't come free — you'll be asked to endure "advertisements on the bottom of the device's home page and on its screen savers."

They're very clear about the fact that ads won't be in the actual text of the books, but this is still a big step for Amazon, and for the tech world in general. For years, tech writers have postulated about ad-subsidized tablets and e-readers, and now, thanks to Amazon, they're finally going mainstream.
