Just days after restoring the PlayStation Network from a major hacker attack and subsequent month-long outage, a newly discovered exploit has forced Sony to take web sign-in offline again. According to an official statement on the PlayStation blog:

We temporarily took down the PSN and Qriocity password reset page. Contrary to some reports, there was no hack involved. In the process of resetting of passwords there was a URL exploit that we have subsequently fixed.

Consumers who haven’t reset their passwords for PSN are still encouraged to do so directly on their PS3. Otherwise, they can continue to do so via the website as soon as we bring that site back up.

Oh. It's an "URL exploit" not a "hack." Nothing to worry about then.

Sony had been advising members to log in and change their passwords, but apparently the new exploit allows evildoers to reset your password simply by knowing your email address and your birthdate... exactly the sort of data exposed on 100 million PSN users during last month's hack. Oops!
