In 2008, when John McCain chose a new, untested governor from Alaska named Sarah Palin as his vice presidential nominee, he gave up the best weapon in his anti-Obama arsenal—the argument that Barack Obama was inexperienced. In 2012, it looks as though Republicans are again giving up the best weapon in their anti-President Obama arsenal—people's fear and confusion about "Obamacare"—by choosing Mitt Romney as a candidate.

Over the weekend, Buzzfeed ran three videos from 2009 in which Mitt Romney called for President Obama to imitate his Massachusetts health care plan. Here's one of the videos:

Go watch the other two. Romney rallies always erupt into loud applause when the candidate insists he's going to repeal Obamacare, but if I was a Republican watching these videos, I'd have to wonder about Romney's true convictions. Can a man transform in three years from a passionate advocate of a plan he created into that plan's most vocal foe? That seems unlikely to me.
