Apparently, when there's something in the News section that readers find offensive, they just assume that it was written by me. How else to explain the glitter-filled envelope we received today, addressed to me, in response to a piece by Paul in which he described mayoral candidate Ed Murray as being "gayer than a unicorn at a glitter party."

Thanks for the warning!

Fortunately, the anonymous glitter-bomber was considerate enough to include the warning "caution! glitter!" on the back of the envelope, so I was careful to peel it open without scratching a cornea. As long as the glitter wasn't also dusted with anthrax, I should be fine.

At least our glitter-bomber (who attributes the letter to the "Unicorn Gay/Straight Alliance") has a sense of humor about it. But the writer of an email we received today—this time correctly addressed to Paul—not so much: "Mr. Constant's description of Ed Murray as being 'gayer than a unicorn at a glitter party' proved Mr. Murray's comment that this mayor's race would be the 'ugliest race in Seattle's history,'" the emailer wrote, before accusing Paul of using a "homophobic slur."

In Paul's defense—and I think the gays in the office would back me up on this—Paul hates all people equally. He's just a bitterly hateful person. So I sincerely doubt homophobia had anything to do with it. But if you disagree, please address your glitter to him.
