TAKE IN SOME MURKY ELECTRONICS WITH BATHS AND YOUNG FATHERS

(Neumos) LA label Anticon has wisely strayed from its wordy nerd-rap roots in recent years by releasing material from forward-thinking artists like Tobacco, D33J, and this bill’s headliner, Baths. But while his 2010 debut Cerulean was a blissful haze of spastically chopped samples and falsetto croons, last year’s Obsidian fell short of matching its quality, and even made his high-pitched delivery lose some of its appeal. Edinburgh, Scotland experimental-rap trio Young Fathers sound much closer to an updated version of some of Anticon’s seminal groups, judging from their debut full-length Dead—which blends distorted electronics and pop hooks with accented, scattershot verses. EVAN FLORY-BARNES' SOULFUL BASS TECHNIQUE

(Chapel Performance Space) Not too long ago, the local jazz bassist delivered a lecture at the Hedreen Center and explained that his love for the instrument is so fundamental, so grounded, that he can even dig the simple bass line in U2’s “With or Without You.” He then played the silly tune’s groove on an upright bass and the expression on his face revealed a pleasure that U2’s bassist, Adam Clayton, clearly does not have the emotional and intellectual capacity to feel. Flory-Barnes, who is also one-quarter of the local supergroup Industrial Revelation, is a first-rate jazz musician and human being. Do not miss this show. CHARLES MUDEDE
