I picked David Johansen Group's "Girls" as today's SotD because it's a total kickass jam and TODAY is singer David Johansen's 65th birfday!

I gotta say, even if the David Johansen Group have become also-rans stuck in the shadow of Johansen's former group, the New York Dolls, the DJG certainly could bring it. It's been a while since I tossed 'em on, but the first two David Johansen Group studio albums, David Johansen and In Style, have held up as good and essential period power-pop records. This song was also featured in the 1980 Mad Magazine film, Up the Academy.
