It was always going to be a rebuilding year despite the happy talk. Getting Wussell Wilson through it in 1 piece will be impressive.

Six sacks is six sacks, coverage or not.

Anyone get consussed?

Well, I hope the footballers all Proved their Patriotism
(while ignoring the U.S.'s massive income inequality/
indiscriminate shootings of poor and POC by police officers)
and stood like automatons* and Saluted the Flag, properly.

*where are the Robots who will work for FREE?
You can betchyur Ass THEY'll have no problem with the Saluting.
Patriots, every single last one of them!

(Provided they've been properly programmed!)
[by the Russians?!]

7-9 division winners!

Look what they have done with their first round pick every year since 2013, and you will see why they are so bereft of talent these days.

No NFL team is going ot stay terribly relevant after throwing away all those picks and getting almost nothing in return.

The drafting has been abysmal.

Thursday Night, trying to make preseason a thing and making year-round NFL news with its own network has over saturated football (a 4th team in California??).

And they blame politics, which, when the jingoism died back a bit and everyone realized Iraq was a terrible idea, the flyovers and troop love didn't stop.

The Seahawks suck and so does the fuckng NFL. Stop watching for a happier life.

Spot-on analysis, Spike. I really enjoy reading your posts. Field Gulls even included one of your tweets in an article. It might be a long year for us, but at least we can look forward to your write-ups. Keep up the good work. Cheers!

@6: The NFL has had four teams in California since the 1970 merger (and soon they'll have three).

9

@1 So woke, it hurts.

10

@9 -- his screen name is a cry for help.
I wouldn't take it personally.

It was the first game of the season, Seahawks always flounder at the beginning. Way too early to call and kind of a disappointing article.

12

@8....to be fair the Rams left for a bit. there was only 3 from 1995-2015.

@6 @8 @12

The population of California is about 40 million, quite close to one-eighth the 325 million people in the US.

The NFL has 32 teams. One-eighth of that is 4. California has nearly perfect proportional representation in the NFL.

There are a lot of states proportionately over-represented by virtue of having a team, but less than 1/32 of the country's population (around 10 million). Of the states that have more, these are the states that have more than their proportional share of NFL teams (from most teams per capita to least):

Ohio (2 teams for 12 million people)
Pennsylvania (2 teams, 13 million people)
New York (3 teams, 20 million people)
Florida (3 teams, 21 million people)

@12: Good point. I grew up an LA Rams fan, so choose to forget their time in St Louis.
