This spring, Canadian astronaut Chris Hadfield became an internet sensation with his cover of David Bowie’s “Space Oddity.” The video was perfect for YouTube: a real astronaut in a real spaceship, drifting here and there in zero gravity as he strummed a guitar and looked longingly at Earth. It was if the tune, first released in 1969, was made for this moment. “This is ground control to Major Tom, you’ve really made the grade…” Hadfield became popular on the news form of our times, Twitter—he almost has a million followers. He will read tonight from his new memoir, An Astronaut’s Guide to Life on Earth. (Town Hall, 1119 Eighth Ave, townhallseattle.org, 7:30 pm, $5)
