“True stories told live.” That’s what the Moth, which busted out of its chrysalis in New York in 1997, promises. Founder George Dawes Green says he named the storytelling events after the moths that would gather around porch lights on evenings in his home state of Georgia. He wanted to re-create that relaxed, story-swapping atmosphere, and the phenomenon exploded, especially among the NPR/This American Life crowd. The list of past storytellers includes Margaret Cho, Al Sharpton, and Malcolm Gladwell, local yokels Dan Savage and Lindy West, as well as hundreds of everyday folks with something they want to tell you.
