Hyped as “the White Stripes of Ethiopia” for their tough minimalist sound, Krar Collective is the trio that spins drums, vocals, and krar (the six-stringed Ethiopian lyre) into a gorgeous tornado of music. Further drama comes from vocalist Genet Assefa’s passionate dancing, built around what the Guardian calls “impossibly rapid shoulder-shaking and dangerously frantic head movements.” Icing on the cake: Seattle hiphop hero Gabriel Teodros opens.
