The Honeycrisp apple has been dethroned. My new favorite piece of fruit is the Aurora Golden Gala, a pale yellow, perfectly crisp "dessert apple" that tastes like apple blossoms, honey, and summer. It's comparable to the Golden Delicious, but its flavor is deeper and sweeter. It's pretty much the perfect apple—dense enough to stand up to cooking and baking (with hardly any added sugar necessary), but light enough to allow for giant, juicy bites without leaving you with a huge chunk of tough, impenetrable fruit in your mouth. That sounds dirty. Go buy some apples. (Available at various supermarkets, including Metropolitan Market, where they're currently $2.99 a pound.)
