George Takei is a national treasure, and this loving documentary does him right, sharing the Takei family’s story of surviving US internment during World War II, unpacking the homoerotic significance of Star Trek’s Sulu, and giving us a lovely gawk at Takei’s marriage to the endlessly understanding Brad. But as with Takei himself, the stories of internment are what you’ll remember. Here is a man who loves his country deeply and unapologetically, and who will never forget what his country did to his family during a time of bigoted fear.
