Ulrik (tall Swede Stellan Skarsgård—you will see his penis), fresh from a 12-year prison stint, doesn't have much to do. He wants to stay straight, to reconnect with his estranged son—but, unfortunately, he has only one friend, local crime boss Rune Jensen. (When we meet Jensen, he is throwing a live woman in the garbage.) And so Ulrik sits in a dank basement, he eats boiled fish, he fixes cars, he has fast awkward sex and kind good sex, while Jensen doggedly tugs him back toward his old life of crime. A Somewhat Gentle Man is a slow, dark, somewhat gentle comedy—just when you think you're bored, you notice it's under your skin. (See Movie Times: thestranger.com/film)
