The Seattle Asian Art Museum says this contemporary Chinese artist's paintings are beyond politics, which is a place I don't believe exists. But here's what does exist: red paint so gorgeous it makes you forget you have a body, let alone a government. Wang Huaiqing's curved red bed frame, floating in space, may be the most erotic thing you see all month (unless you visit the permanent collections at the museum, where there's a cock-and-balls jade pigment box to die for, from the Song dynasty, 960–1279).
