Hugo House's Literary Series, in which authors and musicians perform new work based on a single theme, is one of the most consistently entertaining group readings in town, but this outing should be extra-special. The theme is Mother Knows Best, and performers include smartest-cartoonist-in-town David Lasky, Lauren (Daily Show) Weedman, and country chanteuse Zoe Muth. But the reader of the night will surely be Stranger Genius Stacey Levine, whose stories are beautiful minefields of psychodrama. The possibilities of her reading—what will she do with a concept as primal and loaded as motherhood?—are glorious and frightening. (Hugo House, 1634 11th Ave, 322-7030, 7:30 pm, $15–$25)
