Vendela Vida's newest novel, The Lovers, is a subtle, beautiful, and embarrassingly raw book about a widow who travels to Turkey for no real reason except it's where she and her husband honeymooned many years ago. A rave review by Entertainment Weekly says it "demands a movie version starring Meryl Streep." You do have to think it would be the Greatest Meryl Streep Movie Ever Made, but before that happens, you should enjoy Vida's spare, mellifluous language on the page. Set lots of time aside: You'll want to read it in one gulp. (University Book Store, 4326 University Way NE, 634-3400. 7 pm, free.)
