"It's so alienating in here: I love it," owner Charlie Kitchings says about the new OKOK Gallery, now called Ambach & Rice. What a transformation! The stark, fluorescent-lit ambience—and larger-seeming space, thanks to a new walled-in office that bifurcates the gallery—is perfect for Dutch artist Bas Louter. His haunting charcoal-and-ink portraits of Hollywood images (movie apes, girls with hot cars) are hung between tricky black shapes painted on the walls, creating the sense of an installation that's trying to deceive you.
