(MOVIE) Memories of Murder is based on South Korea's first serial-killer case, which occurred in the mid '80s. The victims are young, rural women murdered on rainy nights. Two country cops attempt to solve the mystery but fail miserably; a city cop also fails to capture the killer. What distinguishes Memories of Murder from, say, a serial-killer movie like Seven, is the total absence of God in the film. In Memories of Murder there is no God, and therefore no solution.
