My grandmother used to tell a confused story about Kirk Douglas's attending her little upstate New York college. She said he was dropped off on a hay wagon.

Lesser Billy Wilder, but a good watch nonetheless. Douglas even steps out of Douglas and turns in a fine performance, but it's Jan Sterling as the world-weary twat who shines and is remembered after the ending credits.

The film has an uncanny prescience.

Paul,
"Ace in the Hole" is a damn good movie. I viewed it a few months ago on DVD. Probably Douglas' finest role.

This film is a classic! Highly recommended for journalists as well as cynics. Especially for those who are lucky enough to be both.
