When I saw the Lemon show on Saturday, during the long sobbing part, a woman from the audience finally yelled out, "Do you need a hug?" And the uncomfortableness factor instantly doubled.

I was also at the same show, sitting right in front of that women! You're right, things became a lot more uncomfortable after that. But it made me wonder how the audiences in other cities react. Maybe this scene is to force the audience to an extreme level of discomfort, which Seattlites withstand but other audiences don't. Maybe they're used to more of a reaction than we gave them!

Note: the dancer in the film clip getting "hosed" was Mr Lemon himself.
5
Note: The word-association scene in 'Wittenburg' sounds a lot like the word-association scene in Dennis Potter's 'The Singing Detective', only more pointed or more cloying, depending on your taste.

Let me see if I have this straight. Brendan Kiley has the nerve to review a play he doesn't even see all the way through? What a hack! Vestal Virgins was a lot of fun - featuring some fine performances. Don't miss this play because of some talentless blow-hard.

6. Not to defend Kiley's take, but I'm thinking his view of Vestal Virigins a matter of relative perspective given what else he saw this week. Stacked up against SSC's polished Wittenberg and Lemon's evocative piece, of course Vestal Virgins is going to look weak in comparison.

The dialogue isn't terrible when you consider the POV is that of mature women twenty years removed from their punk rock lives and trying to make ends meet as adults.

Please wait...
