NPH was great, the writing, overall, great (too many cheap Mike Tyson jokes, imo). But the performances from the nominated shows? Ugh! Crap! Bring it on: The Musical???? No words... Speaking of -- Couldn't understand a word the Mathilda kids were singing. The krunking orphans of Annie were bizarre. Kinky Boots went with the OKGO rip off number. I thought Xmas Story the musical and Cinderella were the least sucky, but still nothing to re-ignite my love for Broadway...
Holy mackerel, amazing work. The shout out to the little kids about to be enraptured by the show was perfect. (Surprised Tim Minchin's Matilda got teeerounced by Kinky Boots. NYT's Dave Itzkoff wrote, "Kinky Boots, if nothing else, was feel-good. Matilda was feel-obligatory.")
At the closer to see Audra In that dress drop the mic, my gawd,
NPH has a great interview on the Nerdist Podcast after his first time hosting last year where he talked about the process of writing the closer during the show.
That was my *exact* response too! You beat me to it. Well played, Sandiai, well played.
At the closer to see Audra In that dress drop the mic, my gawd,
Oh yeah, that was the BOMB.
[sad trombone]
That lady in the closing song sounded TERRIBLE. Pitchy and screechy. Like a demon possessed parrot... FAIL.
By the way he has a puppet show on the Nerdist YouTube Chann… too.
