Totally appreciate the transformation, but in dealing with racial conflict surrounding the gold rush, the author couldn't include any native people that the gold rush actively displaced, as in "we were there while it was happening," in the narrative? Do people really not know that there are still native people in California? In the U.S. in general?
Heyo @1. There was one mention of Native Americans in the book, and it was a joke. One character claims to have been from the area originally, and another says, "I didn't know you had native blood in ya!"
