Monologues About Frustration and Longing

I enjoyed this piece a lot. It was very human in it's criticism of modern life. It's challenging to ask pointed questions about what it all means without being preachy and I thought this piece did a good job of it. I actually thought Shanna Ridenour was the stronger performer, for what it's worth. The problem I found with Bell's performance/direction was that it lacked humor. The situation is tragic, but so much more so when we see the character laughing at himself, fighting for hope. It seemed like Bell was trying to get me to feel sorry for him, which frustrates me as an audience member and subverts the complexity of the writing. I'd rather watch characters who haven't already given up as they try to reason/laugh/defy there way out of an impossible circumstance as opposed to solemnly telling a story about how much their life (or life in general) kinda sucks.
