An Iliad So Intense, One Lady Begged It to End

Lady? The play is called "An Iliad." Did you take high school English? Or any lit class ever? It is a war story. It is an immense, sprawling, gory as hell war story. Don't go crying to the actor (the actor, for god's sake!) if you don't like the content of the play which was very clearly stated in its title. Grar.

I can't say enough good things about Altwies, but this play blows, Brendan, I intend to sit right here doing shots of Bushmills until you realize it. I don't care how long it takes.

Well, make an argument MvB. Convince me! (Or, you know, just get drunk.)

Totally agree Mr. Kiley, this show is awesome. I mean I actually *cared* about Achilles - how often does that happen? That's some damn fine storytellin', Mr. Homer and company.

And yes, this was just a killer season for the Rep, I let my Intiman subscription lapse after comparing schedules.

I considered The 39 Steps as the wacky relative of the season, didn't expect too much and just enjoyed it...

"...literally could've heard a pin drop..." Oh, Brendan.

"An Iliad" is an ingenious creation, the kind of writing that makes you forget you are watching a play. Altwies' delivery is extraordinary, as though he has personally witnessed all the horrors of all wars past, present and future. It's terrifying and moving. Such perfect combinations of text and performer don't come along very often. Do not miss it.
