A bunch of anarchist-hearted artists set out to make an opera about WTO. What could possibly go wrong?

This destroyed Dumpster had been β€œa barricade for people to hide behind as the police were shooting into the crowd,” the photographer remembers. β€œAt some point, it caught on fire. I don’t know if it was because a gas canister landed on it, which had flame and smoke coming out of it, or someone in the crowd lit it on fire. But there I was, in the middle of the downtown shopping district, in the middle of the intersection of Fourth and Pike, standing in front of a bonfire with the police on one side and tens of thousands of protesters on the other. What could be more surreal?”

To clarify: The mission of the Tree Ambassador program is to support urban canopy (trees) in residential neighborhoods. Although the "Tree Ordinance" is one of the tools in our tool box, Tree Ambassadors are not policy-makers--we are volunteers not city employees.

If you are interested in learning more about our city's Urban Forestry efforts, go to:

Jen, Transpacific's song "Fall River Mills" is not electronic, but electricity was certainly used to make it -- let readers decide:
