Local writers have riffed on the Twilight Zone in short plays with Seattle specificities in a complement to the Schmee's annual Twilight Zone fest. See Amy Escobar's No Wake, L. Nicol Cabe's Abundance, and Maggie Lee's The Shiny.

6. Seattle Radio Theatre: A Very KIRO Christmas
Seattle Radio Theatre, KIRO Radio, and Town Hall Seattle will come together to make sweet-natured fun of those corny holiday movies with a tale of a plucky single mom trying to save Christmas in her small town, which is threatened by economic calamity. Stay on afterward for a cookie reception.

Be part of Arcade's holiday tradition: They'll have an auction, a preview of the February edition of ARCADE design mag, food, drink, music, and, this year, high-tech art by Reilly Donovan.

8. Blue Cone Studios Presents: The Relevant Unknowns: 2018 Yearbook Release Party

17. Heidelberg Lecture with Nobel Laureate Prof. Harald zur Hausen
Nobel Laureate Professor Harald zur Hausen, whose research was instrumental in the creation of the current vaccine against HPV, will give a talk on early childhood nutrition and its possible correlation with cancer later in life.

This talk with Dr. Scott Montgomery asks: "If nuclear power can help solve climate change, should we worry about radiation?" The University of Washington professor and author of Seeing the Light: Making the Case for Nuclear Power in the 21st Century will dispel some myths surrounding the relationship between radiation, the environment, and human health.

American consumerism doesn't start when one lands a steady job as an adult—it starts the moment one is born. That's the argument in the documentary Consuming Kids, which traces the evolution and impact of the youth-marketing industry's tactics.

The half-goat, half-demon Christmas monster Krampus will take a break from punishing misbehaved children (his main raison d'être during the Yuletide season) to tell strange folklore stories. Audience members can enjoy hot chocolate and "Kristmas cookies," then have their pictures taken with Krampus. 

61. PhinneyWood Phestivus
PhinneyWood's art walk/party/"monkey crawl" celebrates the neighborhood's spirit animal with light-up monkey decorations and Phestivus Pole (the old air-raid tower, garlanded and monkey-fied). Wear an ugly sweater to participate in the pub crawl and get deals on food and drinks at participating restaurants and bars. The Emerald City Trolley will also be giving free rides between 59th and 87th Streets.

65. Beautiful Thing
Jonathan Harvey's play is set in a council housing (low-income) estate in South London, where a closeted gay kid struggles with his first love, a boy with an abusive father in the next apartment over. This production is directed by Gary Zinter and Rodney Shrader.

Kutie LaBootie and other members of Stripped Screw crash an innocent Christmas pageant and cause much shock, horror, and arousal.

In this romantic-comedic play written by Jason Odell Williams, a young Israeli woman who speaks little English meets and falls in love with a guy named Josh when she travels to the United States with her grandmother over Christmastime. This production features special themed drinks.

Six- to 18-year-old students in the Preparatory Dance Program at Cornish College of the Arts present their annual performance of The Nutcracker.

The Bavarian-style village of Leavenworth transforms into the most whimsical of winter wonderlands for three weekends in December, featuring hundreds of twinkling lights, visits from St. Nickolaus and other Christmas characters, carolers, and much more.

Regardless of how you feel personally about SantaCon—the annual bar crawl that encourages adults to dress as the jolly mascot of Christmas and jingle their bells to various downtown watering holes—it will likely outlive us all. The chorale group Puget Sound Revels are back with a holiday set steeped in English countryside flavors, with music, magic, and mythology. Performers will include actor Tony Curry, the Twimble Tunesters, the Revels choristers, Seattle Brass Ensemble, and more.

114. The Steadfast Tin Soldier, A Story Ballet
For the 22nd season, Dance Fremont will present its holiday production of The Steadfast Tin Soldier, A Story Ballet, a family-friendly retelling of the Hans Christian Andersen tale.

115. Black Santa Visit
Every year, Black Santa pays a visit to the Northwest African American Museum to take photos with kids and hear their holiday wishes. While kids are in line, they can enjoy a host of activities like arts and crafts and a holiday movie screening.

119. 75th Anniv Chinese Exclusion Repeal Act
The Chinese Exclusion Repeal Act of 1943, proposed by Warren G. Magnuson (a former Representative of Washington's 1st district and the namesake of Magnuson Park), renounced the discriminatory federal law that banned all immigration of Chinese laborers. This exhibit comes on the repeal's 75th anniversary.

120. Retrogressive ~ A Speakeasy Fundraiser for Lifelong
Dress in your Sunday best for a party that supports Lifelong, a resource center for those living with chronic diseases, including HIV/AIDS. Guests will enjoy live DJs spinning vintage jazz, blues, big bands, an art installation, a "Moulin Rouge-inspired performance" from opera singer Stefanie Renee, a raffle, drinks, and more 20s-era fun.

At this brunch pop-up, chef Thai Nguyen, who's an alum of Daniel Boulud's famous Michelin-starred New York restaurant Daniel, will prepare steamy, comforting bowls of pho sourced with top-notch ingredients from Hitchcock, including local dry-aged beef, Bainbridge Island organic stewing hens, Olympic Peninsula mushrooms, and more, accompanied by drinks like Vietnamese coffee, whole young coconuts, and pho broth Bloody Marys garnished with pickled peppers.
