People like their cars. Deal with it.

"Nearly a third of the total funds are earmarked for new roads and highway expansion"

I know the Stranger pulled this from Hobbs' press release, but can anyone identify a "new road" in this proposal? Most of what I am seeing are safety improvements and maintenance for existing roadways: http://sdc.wastateleg.org/hobbs/wp-content/uploads/sites/13/2019/02/2019TranspoProjects.pdf

"It is particularly perverse to use carbon fee revenue to build car infrastructure, instead of fueling a just transition to a clean economy with electrified passenger and freight modes of transport . . . ."

I'm confused--where are all the electric cars and trucks going to drive?

4

@3 On the pie in the sky.

5

"It is particularly perverse to use green revenue streams to support dirty transportation infrastructure."

Since it wasn't perverse to use taxes on the dirty transportation infrastructure to generate green revenue, this complaint is without merit.

If the State Legislature implements a 1% tax on bicycle sales, in the future I'll be buying my bikes in Portland...out of spite

6

They should be subsidizing bikes and anything else that gets Americas's fat collective ass off the couch. Healthcare savings from increased healthiness will more than cover the costs.

8

1/3 of the transportation budget is going to roads? Onoz. Omg.

Sierra Club and Transit Riders Union continue to be hacks.

9

@2 Shhhh. Anything that’s an “improvement” is an “expansion” to these jokers.

Of course, they’ll hide behind “it’s an editorial.”

10

@7: Not all are fat asses. Some are physically incapable of bicycling, or just too old like you will be, without the fat ass I trust.

11

@6 - Oregon has a $15 bicycle excise tax.

Can these smart folks direct us to any scientific peer-reviewed studies that show that cutting carbon emissions by any particular amount will restore the climate to whatever Edenic Ideal the Left longs for?
There are a lot of reasons to burn less carbon, but thinking it is going to reverse Climate Change is not one of them.
Science and all.

13

Obviously we should require electric vehicle charging in all new homes increasing the cost of housing for everyone.
Because the burden of climate change legislation should hurt the poorest people who have to drive the furthest to work in gasoline cars while Tesla drivers can pat themselves on the back.

"Can these smart folks direct us to any scientific peer-reviewed studies that show that cutting carbon emissions by any particular amount will restore the climate to whatever Edenic Ideal the Left longs for?"

BACK to Eden? Yeah, right.
Slowing or stopping Catastrophic Climate Change would suffice;
We just wanna keep the fucking Planet Habitable for Future Generations.

Meanwhile, you and the Kock Bros LLC et al just wanna
extract the last dead dinosaur for fun and Profit and
DAMN the Planet. At least, you and the Kocks have
a common Enemy: Life on Earth.

14

So; no studies?

16

15

Yes, there are no studies.

Adopt habits that appear virtuous, but do not actually be virtuous.
